Changing this Blog

I’m going to keep this blog going, but I’m changing its focus. My main blog is now at www.shoorayner.com. I’m going to open out this blog to be more about drawing in general rather than just my own videos on Youtube. Hope you will enjoy seeing how it goes.

How to draw a cute cartoon Japanese Geisha

I was asked to draw this by a YouTube friend in Croatia! I’ve always loved Japanese things so this is the result. She doesn’t look very Japanese. Everytime I tried to make her look Japanese she was either too much a weternised stereotype or it looked like an 18th century print. Have a go anyway.

If you can’t see this at school or in a library because Youtube is blocked, then go to my own site www.shoo-tube.com which is allowed through most content filters in schools.

How to draw a Squid!

This drawing lesson was inspired by a story we made up at Cwmtridwr Junior School near Caerphilly, recently. Squid are weird and wonderful things. I’m beginning to quite grow fond of them and octopi too. You can see this on my website www.shoo-tube.com if you have difficulty seeing youtube in schools or libraries. if the pages look odd – please update your browser! Some schools are years behind!

OVER 100,000 Drawing School Videos!

Wow! I’ve just added up my drawing school videos and I’ve had over 100,000 watched worldwide. I think that’s a bit of a milestone. I’ve been plodding away adding my videos to teachertube as well. It’s a bit of a process as their US Servers area bit slow over here and I’ve had to resolve various issues to be able to upload sucessfully, But I’ve just realised that I’m serving about 300 videos a day on that site alone. Ad in Youtube and my own site www.shoo-tube.com and I’m serving a thousand videos a day now. It took me a year to reach my first one thousand videos!

It’s fascinating how I’m beginning to build a world-wide community, with drawing pals in the US, Australia, Croatia and Sweeden to name but a few. I’ve had a couple of video responses for my win a signed book competition and the subscribers list is growing. It’s an awful lot of hard work, but worth it!

I’ve been faffing about with the look of my shoo-tube site and I feel I’m now happy with it. Getting the a simple design that doesn’t get in the way or feel too old or too young or too corporate is difficult. I’ve had to comes to terms with the Joomla CMs and learn a whole lot about CSS (cascading style sheets) To get the template up and running. There were times when my brain literally ached, but now it’s all set up and ready for me to fill with content and start promoting it. So far, it has shown up in every school I’ve visited, without their dreadful nanny software blocking it, which is brilliant.

How to draw a seal – Drawing School

Here’s the latest video, how to draw a seal. Actually it shows you how to draw a seal and a sea lion. There are subtle differences in the ears and the flippers. Then Sea :ion can bend it’s flippers underneath and use them as feet to walk on. Seals just have flippers and have to lurch and lunge themselves around on dry land.

I’f you’d like to see this at school but Youtube is blocked, my Drawing School site at www.shoorayner.com/DrawingSchool. I’ve seen these videos get past the school blocking filters as they come fro my site and not from Youtube. If they don’t get through, ask your IT dept to unblock the site for you as it is a safe, educational site.

Drawing School – off to a good start!

I’m really surprised. I zeroed all my videos on Drawing School yesterday, and when I went into the admin to see how they were doing, I’ve served about 200 videos since. That’s pretty amazing since I’ve only mentioned it here and on Facebook. I’ve not set up a link to my site yet as it’s still under construction. Maybe all the effort will be worthwhile.
